The Pobuna Secondary Grammar School Old Students Association Epe, Lagos, on Friday, said that its 2024 election scheduled for Saturday was to elect leaders that would reform the school for greater glory.

The Chairman of the electoral committee, Mr Ebun Ola-Campbell, said that, the association has been pivotal in the development of the school founded Feb. 20, 1970 with focus to re-orientate students to greater heights.

Campbell who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos ahead of the election said that, the election has been keenly contested to produce best hands who would liaise with the school management to achieve the institutions mandate.

It further reports that, the 54-year old school has produced many influential dignitaries in the society, hence its better management was of concern to society.

He said that the association national officers to be elected on Saturday Feb. 3, were expected to proffer solutions to the institution's problems within the resources available and attract interventions of projects from government and donor agencies to keep the place vibrant and conducive for learning..

He named the electoral officers to include Mrs.Victoria Babalola, Mr Johnson Ishaq while Campbell serves as the Chairman.

He said that, winners, would be inaugurated during the school 54 anniversary later in February.

According to him the reunion-like-carnival election will be stress free with old boys restating commitment to steer the school to desired hight.

"Most of the products of the school are AVM Dapo Shomade Rtd, the immediate past First Lady of Lagos State H E Bolanle Ambode, CP Damilola Adegbuyi, Rtd, former CP Oyo State, HRM Oba Babatunde Ogunlaja, the Aladesanyin of Noforija, Lagos State, CP Rivers State Mr Rilwan Olatunji and others," he said.

AMLI is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) in Nigeria with focus on the African child's education, equal rights and opportunity in the digital environment.

The NGO works in collaboration with the Civil Society Actions Coalition on Education (CSACEFA) to achieve its objectives.

Enwemadu, spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on the 2024 World Education Day, said that, the regulation was essential to enable children reach the appropriate school age before entry for them to withstand the learning environment demands.

NAN reports that Jan. 24 of every year is set aside by the UN to mark the world education day. It is a stock taking programme on the way forward on child's education.

The AMLI director frowned at hurried child syndrome that has become a tradition in the society advocated for a nationwide regulation of school entry age for the Nigerian child.

She said that, as the world marks International day for education, it was an opportunity to right the wrongs in the system for a better society.

“As the world focuses on the well-being of children through the lense of education with the theme, Learning For Lasting Peace, it is pertinent that Nigeria, Africa as a whole and the world at large focus on what manner of children will create lasting peace”.

"A mentally stable and balanced child is one who has been allowed to grow and develop at their natural pace.

"The mental health of children has its foundation in the appropriateness of school entry age. Children who are hurried through their learning and growth process eventually suffer deformity from 'The hurried child syndrome' and turn out to be psychologically, socially, and emotionally imbalanced”.

"The Nigeria government seeks to ensure that every Nigerian child returns to school and acquires basic literary and numeric skills at the age of 10"

"AMLI is advocating that children should only be allowed to enrol into age related classes. Appropriateness of maturity, age, and psyche of children in schools must be a concern to all.

"Non adherence to this approach contributes to the learning crisis currently affecting education in Nigeria", she said.

She said that as economic pressure sways and parents part with their children at an early age, government should ensure that such practice was halted for the common good.

She appealed to the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and others to ensure that Nigerians were sensitised on the implications of under-aged enrollment which she viewed as hurrying children in their formative years.

She described the practice as a form of child abuse that could result in traumatic experiences that leaves an adverse effect on the person.

She noted that the effects Rob's of on the individual adulthood which was a minus on the society.

She appealed to education development partners, donors and NGOS to extend interventions to all parts of the country for an even development.

The Clerics, concerned with the hardship faced by people, gave the advise at the 40th anniversary of the Darul Falaah of Arabic and Islamic Studies held at the institute in Lagos.

He called on government at all levels to prioritise peoples' welfare and abstain from corrupt practices for a better society.

Also speaking at the event, the guest lecturer, Dr Saheed Timehin, said that, for the nation to make headway, the nation should investment in produce value addition for export.

Timehin, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Foreign Language, Lagos State University, whose lecture theme was "Nigeria 2030 Political and Economic Vision" envisaged a good economy for the nation if the state should tailor resources toward reviving industrialisation of the economy.

The lecturer, called for an improved infrastructure to aid domestic and foreign investment in the agro business sphere, saying with constant export of commodities the nation's economy would be strengthened and the Naira regain its standard.

Mr Olaoye Taofeeq-Zakariyyah, an Alumnus of the institute, said that, the school has remained steadfast in the instilling discipline in people.

The Redeemed Christain Church of God (RCCG) Lagos State Provenance 36 on Sunday trained youths on business development initiatives, stressed skill acquisition as a requisite for self reliance.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos reports that, the programme with the theme "Stand Out" aimed at revamping the nation's economy through small holding cottage firms.

The training, held at the RCCG Power-link chapel Lekki Lagos, exposed people on business opportunity identification within ones community, fund sourcing, book keeping, structure maintenance, distribution networking and business relationship sustainability.

It reports that, the programme that drew no fewer than 150 participants from churches in the RCCG Lagos Provence 36, was to empower youths on methods to sow investment seeds that would grow and make people employers rather than employees.

It reports that, the Church, has been in the vanguard for youth reform with a view to arresting youth unemployment and it's attendant social disequilibrium that has been a concern to governments and organisations in the society of late.

It further reports that, the programme assembled reckoned business owners that trained participants on the regiments to grow investment seeds to stardom and sustainability; linked people with mentors to overcome subsisting barriers.

Speaking at the event, one of the resource persons for the session, Mr Edwin Eyewunmi-Agbodu, described business management as the ability to pull resources to achieve a goal.

Eyewunmi-Agbodu, who doubled as the CEO of Future House Properties, a real estate consultant, spoke on identifying business opportunities, said that, finding out what the society lacks and proffering it's solution could be turn into business idea.

According to him building a business credibility could aid one to get funding for an identified investment idea.

"Check around you what is that people consult you for that you offer them solution for, nothing say you cannot commercialise it, its your divine talent that cannot be wiped away.

"Learn a skill peculiar to that your business idea so that that will remain one of your enviable start-up capital to carry you through the needed competitive edge for the business.

"Don't be afraid of risk taking and don't be afraid to fail, in Christianity it's called faith. Take a bold step and surmount procrastination, for if you attempt and fail the failure will make you to learn how not to fail again.

He decried reckless life style of some youths, said that, some people mostly elderly ones have money laying fallow in banks that ones credibility deposition could attract to enable one start off in business.

In his presentation at the event, another resource person Mr Adeshina Adewunmi, said that, book keeping was essential to attract funding.

Adewunmi, Founder of Trade Lenders firm, spoke on funding for small businesses, frowned at the inability of business owners to keep financial records of business, said that no bank could disburse loan to businesses without a proper book keeping records.

Adewunmi, tasked the young potential business owners on structure, said that taxes should be paid, annual audit carried out, speration of ones account and personal expenses from business one essential and to instil staff disciple and motivation.

He stressed good business proposal writing and presentation, saying deficiency in proposal writing has made many people's business dreams remain unachievable.

He said that a good proposal was one that the financier could read and understand from the beginning to the end flawless methods followed from investment to return on investment.

Lagos, Sept.24, 2023 (NAN) Some children on Sunday relished the ambiance of competitive learning they were exposed to at the Justice Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) 2023 World Literacy Day.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos reports that, the programme, with the theme “Promoting Literacy for a World in Transition, Building the Foundation for Sustainable and Peaceful Societies” It was organised by Lagos Justice Development and Peace Centre (JDPC)

It was to educate children on the importance of literacy and to forestall illiteracy in the society, it highlighted initiatives geared toward the promotion of reading and writing.

It reports that, the participants drawn from different schools in the area, were taught, expression, writing, courteous relations with others and troubleshooting as basics for literacy.

It reports that, the children, grouped according to individual schools, out smarted one another to answer impromptu questions to project their schools were offered writing materials as rewards.

The International Literacy Day is an international observance, celebrated yearly Sept. 8 .

It was declared by UNESCO on Oct. 26, 1966 at the 14th session of UNESCO’s General Conference.

It was celebrated for the first time in 1967.

Speaking at the event, Mr Louis Nwadinlo, Sec JDPC Surulere Deanery described literacy as, the ability to read, speak, build and to design.

He added that, literacy was a drive to ensure people are educated and avoid illiteracy that he defined as a social minus.

Nwadinlo who interacted with the children in a charismatic way activated in the participants inductive and deductive reasoning to give the pupils the needed competitive edge.

According to him literacy promotes life living, it improves the individual and community economy.

“The campaign helps to stop discrimination against child education that restores the dignity man,” he said.

He frowned at the the high number of out-of-school children in the country, said that the organisation through its scholarship scheme has aided indigent pupils to acquire education.

Also speaking at the event, Mrs Margret Olabisi-Mekwuye, JDPC Co-ordinator said that the aim of the yearly programme was to place premium on child education to ensure no child was left behind in school enrollment and attendance.

She said the event was a global project that improves knowledge and information acquisition.

“It promotes democratic values, peace, health and well-being. It promotes life-long learning and build skills,” she said.

She said that the world would be much better when everyone got basic education to enable the human person chart an ideal life style for the benefit of the society.

She called on teachers to be alert to their duty in order to salvage the drifting society.

Master Philip Dada from the Global Decision College Aguda Surulere Lagos said that, he was excited and glad to have attended the programme.

He said that the programme has made him to speak boldly in public.

The Association of Igbo Maritime Practisioners in Nigeria (ASSIMPIN), on Wednesday said the ongoing membership biometric capturing was to identify genuine practitioners ahead of its election.

The executive members of the maritime pressure group, made the clarification at a news conference in Lagos that the identification was to ensure that nonmembers do not participate in the association’s activities.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the apex Igbo maritime body has been in the forefront of instilling professional ethics among freight forwarders and harmonious working relationship with port officials.

Addressing newsmen, ASSIMPIN National Publicity Secretary, Dr Obicee Okonkwo, said that the conference was to disabuse the misconceptions on the biometric capturing.

Speaking on the subsisting rancor within the ranks of maritime body, Okonkwo said genuine members belong to various chapters that make up the national body.

According to him, the identification exercise will curb the hiring of non-members by candidates contesting various positions to vote during election.

“What was witnessed at previous election where traders from Oshodi and other markets were contracted to participate.

“The association’s constitution does not recognise what some people call “Elders Forum” therefore such do not exist in the body.

“Members should dissociate themselves from such utopian contraction and go ahead with the biometric at their chapters to legitimate their membership for a seamless management,” he said.

He said that the leadership of the body led by Mr Eze Obianigwe was not a hush affair as the executive members were duly constituted, hence the need for election at the chapters to strengthen the body.

Secretary of the association, Mr Okey Egbuchulam, said that ASSIMPIN must identify a member of the association, before the body’s Election Committee would soon be inaugurated to midwife the election that would bring in new executives to run the body.

The secretary said that ASIMPIN election was a collegiate which empowers only chapters’ executives to vote during the election of people into the national executive.

Progressive political philosophy in the country may have predated the All Progressives Congress (APC) but not such progressive torch-bearers as Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Aminu Kano, Tai Solarin, Lateef Jakande, Ambrose Alli, Tunji Braithwaite, etc. For President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who makes the list, his presidency will surely put some sheen on the progressive face of the Nigerian nation.

Of them all, late elder statesman Dr. Tunji Braithwaite, a distinguished lawyer who literally captivated the elite and youths as founding presidential candidate of Nigeria Advance Party (NAP) by his message, ’’kill the mosquitoes and coakroaches’’ and, ‘’ take your destiny in your hands’’ against systemic misrule was popular. He was a dogged fighter.

Today, aside the renewed hope offered by the new Nigerian leader, Tunji Braithwaites’ only son Barrister Olumide Braithwaite, who was spokesman of the now-dissolved Silas Agara-led Tinubu Shettima Grassroots Independent Campaign Council (TSGICC) took the progressive torch higher, tearing through popular TV and radio platforms and newspaper pages campaigned hard for Asiwaju while connecting the progressive moment between his late father’s message to Tinubu’s final arrival in Aso Villa.

The Braithwaites had also recently given traction to their late patriach’s progressive gospel by rolling out events from March 20-Monday 27 to mark the 90th birthday anniversary of their stallion nonagenarian matriarch, Dr. Mrs. Grace Olubanwo Simisola Braithwaite, a retired consultant paediatrician and past president of Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN). From launching her memoirs, Grace to Conquer: Chronicles from the Crucible of a Matriach, they had a public lecture themed: Sexual and Gender-Based Violence by the Executive Secretary, Lagos State Sexual and Domestic Violence Agency, Titilayo Vivour-Adeniyi, anchored by MWAN’s delegation led by the Lagos State First Lady, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu.

The events were capped with a thanksgiving service at St. Paul‘s Church Breadfruit,10 Davies Street and reception at The Glitter Hall, Yard 158 Kudirat Abiola Way, Oregun Ikeja where turnout was huge. Former President Muhammadu Buhari who captured the essence in a letter to Olumide Braithwaite, described Mama as ’’a virtuous woman who has worked tirelessly with her late husband, the legendary advocate, to carve a path to life for many’’.

Mr. Olumide Braithwaite, managing partner at Tunji Braithwaite’s law firm where his three all-lawyers siblings are also senior attorneys, said his father always felt very sad seeing the nation seized by sleazy ruler-looters, noting that he encouraged his children to commit to fixing a new country completely rid of social vices he popularly called ‘’mosquitoes and coakroaches’’, where no university graduate should be jobless and no Nigerian retire to bed hungry.

This disclosure explains why the young Braithwaite openly endorsed Tinubu’s presidential ambition leading to his resounding election on February 25 and eventual inauguration on May 29 thereby fulfilling his late father’s lifelong push for a government that truly espouses progressive thinking.

It is safe therefore to draw parallels therefore between President Tinubu and Tunji Braithwaite as two of Nigeria’s outstanding 21st century iconic fighters for political rights, democracy and good governance. No doubt, their aspirations intersect meaning that it is possible, even plausible, to connect their respective progressive concepts.

Braithwaite desperately wanted a dynamic Nigeria that harnesses the human and natural resources of its people which he believed the former premier of the Western region in the First Republic, late Chief Awolowo, strove to achieve by introducing free and compulsory education for children of school-going age. By advocating nothing but good governance, he wanted a new corporate existence to emerge saying that Nigeria’s future was completely worn out, in rags and tatters.

But over the years, he dared the establishment openly expressing how he couldn’t withstand injustice as a young man, for example, during his handling of the legendary Afrobeat music maestro, Fela Anikulapo Kuti’s case when ‘unknown soldiers’ stormed Kalakuta Republic. Fela had regular brushes with successive military regimes fighting misrule with his music which made him a constant target of successive military juntas.

Braithwaite, often found in the sweet company of Nobel laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, former NBA president, late Chief Alao Aka-Bashorun and Mr. Femi Falana, SAN in defence of the oppressed, was one of the lawyers that represented late Awolowo in the infamous 1962/63 treasonable felony trial against him by the then Federal Government.

It is on record that when late maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha announced his 1996/1997 political transition programme, Tunji Braithwaite was the first person who challenged Abacha at the risk of his life. None of the leading politicians who formed the Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM) dared challenge Abacha. It was after he took on Abacha up to the Supreme Court that former Inspector General of Police, late M.D Yusuf, another courageous politician at that time, followed suit and declared.

Like Braithwaite, Tinubu’s near-death brushes with the military establishment as a NADECO chieftain emerged following the annulment of June 12, 1993 election of late Chief M.K.O Abiola by former military president Ibrahim Babangida. His travails increased when the late maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha sacked late Ernest Shonekan but he escaped abroad to coordinate diverse international pressure to force the military to accept the election results widely adjudged free and fair. He survived Abacha’s onslaught to tell his story 30 years after as Nigeria’s elected president after thoroughly scorched in the furnace of struggle.

When he returned to contest election in 1999 which he won on the platform of opposition Alliance for Democracy to become governor of Lagos State, his fighting spirit was again tested as another pseudo-democrat military dictator, ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, pounced on his state, seized its allocations in a veiled bid to politically wrestle the state from him citing illegal creation of Development Areas as reason.

A skilful, embittered but bold Bola Tinubu ran to court, up to apex Supreme Court, pleading the case which he won thereby setting a jurisprudential precedent in how to deploy law to quash executive lawlessness. Like a heroic fighter, especially after ducking Obasanjo’s bullets and bludgeoning, he has held on, crossing bridges, side-stepping landmines, fighting off battles of so many sorts that it fits substituting Soyinka’s award-winning epic play, The Trials of Brother Jero with The Trials of Brother Bola.

That is the story of a man for whom battles of life, like the betrayals, media marking, unprintable name-calling, unending court cases, cabal conspiracy, institutional back-stabbing, sudden currency changes, electoral wars, etc have become buttons of lifting. Such is the stuff that true progressives are made. Struggle is their life. History has proved God’s immense grace on Tinubu showing how the hero has surmounted obstacles to arrive at Aso Rock.

Beyond politics, Braithwaite was a social crusader who was always in league with those advocating sanity and fairer deal for the populace.

He was in the quest for a saner and safer Nigeria governed by equity and fairness deploying his personal resources to found a political party, like Tinubu knowing that leading a party platform is the first major force to enthrone and enforce progressive change.

And what is a progressive, one may ask? My brief study revealed that the term, progressivism, ‘’holds that it is possible to improve human societies through political action. As a political movement, progressivism seeks to advance the human condition through social reform based on purported advancements in science, technology, economic development, and social organization’’.

Put differently, progressive thinking means modern ideas about how things should be done, rather than employing traditional, conservative models. A progressive favours progress or reform, especially in political matters. It is a means of making policies and laws to drive programmes that give the most people opportunity regardless of their background or identity.

There has been a huge investment of public expectation in the new Bola Tinubu dispensation owing to what many describe as a reference point as former Lagos State governor where within his 8-year tenure he set up the machinery that has turned the fortunes of the state around.

There is also the angle which many observers like to cite as a positive factor based on President Bola Tinubu’s skillfulness in fighting off anti-progressive forces.

Though the APC has been in the saddle since 2015, there is a feeling in many progressive quarters that, with Bola Tinubu as a tried fighter, tested progressive, courageous social reformer and consummate democrat, Nigeria is poised to enter into a true progressive mode capable of unleashing the nation’s potentials for rapid growth and development. This is where the Nigerian people are right now.

With President Bola Tinubu now in the saddle, there is deserved rest for Dr. Tunji Braithwates; soul.

Being an elegant woman simply means dressing appropriately, wearing a kind of look that attracts honour to you, and making your appearance an eye balm to anyone that sees you. Not looking like a physical punishment. 

If you are an elegant woman, please don't do the following:

1. Elegant ladies shouldn't wear long nails, yes those acrylic long nails make your nails look like a claw. You are to wear a sizeable nail length. Also, it is better when you wear red or nude colour paint on your finger.  

2. Elegant ladies don't wear long eyelashes, ohch! There is nothing elegant about long lashes. It has a way of cheapening your look and also if you must make up, use the right shades for your skin colour and apply your make-up correctly. Don't overdo it, avoid too many bright colours on your face so that you don't end up looking like a clown 🤡 Better still, if you don't know how to apply make-up, leave your face natural.

3. You shouldn't be caught wearing ripped jeans, it's a no no for you if you want to look elegant.

   

4. Elegant ladies shouldn't be caught wearing coloured hair like pink, green, blue, or purple, it doesn't befit you, and it makes you look like a street girl.  And those are not natural hair colours. You can wear black, brown and blonde hair colours. 

5. There is no elegance about having too many tattoos on your body. If you have tattoos try to conceal them when you are in the public.

 6. And finally for this edition,  tying wrappers around the house is not befitting for an elegant lady. Some people even tie wrappers to buy things across the street. It's awful. Many of us are guilty of it, including the writer. LoL. 

Editor's note: The journey of becoming an elegant woman is a gradual change, it doesn't mean all these 'don'ts' are totally bad, it's just that as an elegant woman it doesn't befit your person.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday 29th May, 2023, public holiday to commemorate the inauguration of the nation's 16th democratically elected President.

The declaration was made by the Hon. Minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, in Abuja on Friday on behalf of the Federal Government. 

The Minister stated this in a press statement signed by Dr Shuaib Belgore, the press secretary and made available on their portal, it reads in part, ”Democracy anywhere is an unfinished business and the only way it can keep developing and serve its end of being the vehicle to good governance and the welfare of all the people is by adhering to its tenets of rule of law, support for democratic institutions, promotion of free and responsible press and advancement of the frontiers of freedom for all the people."

Aregbesola urges Nigerians also to continue to promote ideals of peaceful coexistence and love for our neighbours, noting that we can only practice democracy and enjoy its dividends in a peaceful environment.

The Minister commends all Nigerians for their strident efforts at achieving an unbroken civilian rule and successful change of governments since 1999. He urges them to support and cooperate with the coming administration, arguing that the unbounded energy of the people is the nation’s greatest strength and will take the nation to its greatest height when it is positively deployed in its service.

HE Peter Obi of Labour Party has again reinforced his commitment in the nation building. He stated in his recent post on Tweeter that he rejected dual citizenship of other countries because of his strong believe that Nigeria would need his attention.

He said, "I have consistently called on Nigerians to take back their country because only Nigerians can save Nigeria. This is the only nation that we have, and it is ours to build and develop. When I rejected the dual citizenship of other countries years back, I was conscious that Nigeria as the only country that I have will need my full attention and commitment in the years to come."

He also made a passing comment on the recent book, "Hands Off Africa" written by Pope Frances and prefaced by the Nigerian global Author, Chimammanda Ngozi Adichie. Obi praised the iconic author for making giant strides at the international space.

The former governor of Imo State, HE Emeka Ihedioha has announced the death of his mother, Dame Dorothy Nsonma Ihedioha (Nee Okereke) who died on 20 April 2023 in Abuja.

The former governor in a statement made available to media wrote, "After a fruitful and eventful life of God’s abundant mercies and grace, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Dame Dorothy Nsonma Ihedioha (Nee Okereke) gloriously transited to eternity on Thursday 20th April 2023 in Abuja. Burial arrangements will be announced in due course."

Prof. Ebun Clark, the wife of late JP Clark, one of the Nigerian foremost poet and playwright has refuted this old order. She told a hall filled University of Lagos, Unilag students recently in Lagos that the reason Unilag was rated as the pride of Nigeria and first choice university was because Unilag was actually the first university of Nigeria and also the first federal university of Nigeria.

She made this revelation at a public book presentation titled, “Emerging Perspectives on J.P. Clark and His Works” held at Unilag on Tuesday. The book was edited by Hope Eghagha and Solomon Azumurana.

She revealed further that the purported reports about University of Ibadan being the first university of Nigeria was not true.

In her words, “When you said Unilag is the pride of Nigeria, I don’t really think you know why? She asked the cheering students.

"University of Ibadan is the oldest awarding degree in Nigeria. It is not the oldest Nigerian University. The degree awarded in the university of Ibadan read university of London.

“When Nigeria became independent in 1960, Nigeria set up her own University, by act of parliament. Which is the University of Lagos.

"Nobody can sue me for this, because I have first hand information about what I am saying. I was a staff of University of Ibadan and among the first staff of university of Lagos when it started.

"When we became federal republic in 1963, Unilag became the first federal university of Nigeria, “ she said.

Pastor Seyi Oyedeji, Superintendent of Christ Apostolic Church CAC, Somolu DCC has called on all Nigerians to set aside their tribal and religious differences and work together to make the nation great.

The cleric who noted that Nigeria is more divided today along tribal and religious lines said, “Nigerians need to be united as one. Let’s forget about tribalism; this one is Youruba, this one is Igbo, this one is Hausa or Efik. We are all one and one nation. There is no need to create division based on tribe or religion.”

Oyedeji made this call at the 60th years anniversary of the church last weekend with the theme, “The Everlasting God”

In his speech, The cleric recalled how internal crises almost ripped the church apart but for God intervention. He noted that before he came on board the crisis had led to mass exodus of Church members including the youths, and the church with about 1000 members was reduced to 200 members saying, “But God has begun to restore the church in numbers since I came on board.

“The church has passed through a lot of crises, but we thank God for the grace of God that sustained the church till today. Even there were mass exodus of youths but later we started the English assembly helping the church.

"When I came on board I met about 200 members and the church was over 1000 members before. The church was full, but many left the church because of the crises. Today there are about 350 members in the church.”

He stated further that the church decided to honour and award most of its pioneers and old members living and who have remained steadfast and consistent in serving the Lord in the church in order to encourage other members to stay in the faith knowing that there are rewards in staying in the fold. He said,"The recognition of the awardees as part of the celebration is to appreciate these people who have distinguished themselves and positively imparted the assembly and are still living and consistent. The award also is to encourage the up coming on stage to remain consistent and steadfast to the end so as to receive eternal reward.”

The celebration began with a special praise night and 25 million fund raising for the building of an ultra-modern youth edifice.

According to the cleric, the building would house the teen hall, the youths hall ( for services) and residents on the top and the project has started.

Speaking on how the church was founded he said, “CAC, Oke-Isegun Apata, Somolu DCC started in April 1963. We thank God that the very seed planted that year has grown up to this stage.

“It was from this assembly it move to become a district from district to zonal council and from zonal council to districts coordinating councils, having many assemblies under this church. We have about 12 districts under Somolu district coordinating council. And we have two centers, having assemblies under them.”

I Was Taken To The Village To Die, I Stayed Three Days Without Any Treatment, Yet I Survived- Glory

Glory was 13 years old when her biological mother attempted to kill her. She told an influencer with the name 'Luckyudu' that on that fateful day, around 2 am she wanted to go to the toilet which is at the back of their house. The mother accompanied her with a touch, when they got to the toilet, she heard a sound of a matchet, her mother aimed at her head. But the cutlass landed on face thrice, when she was struggling with her, she cut off her two hands before the father came to her rescue and other neighbors who took the cutlass from her hands. She was rushed to the hospital and many of the hospitals rejected her. She was taken to the village to die. But she stayed still after 3 days without any treatment, she begged her father to take her to the hospital so that she would survive. The father took her to a hospital in Delta state. There she was treated and she stayed in the hospital for three months. 

Then in the video "Luckyudu" asked the father if the wife was arrested, he said the wife was arrested but she kept troubling the police in the cell and they were forced to release her. He said after they came back from the hospital, one day the wife came to visit her daughter Glory and was surprised to see her in that condition. She asked what happened to her, then Glory told her she was the one that inflicted her cutlass, she couldn't believe it. She confessed to being a witch. She said the mother confessed that they have been disturbing her in their coven to kill her, and they have tried to kill her spiritually but she didn't die, so they decided to kill her physically.

Glory said when her mother left her side, that same day the news came that she took her life. Her mother took poison to end her own life.

Glory is about 20 years old now, she has grown into a beautiful young girl, although the scars from the cutlass cuts on her face and hands are still very visible. She has moved on with life through the help of her father. She told 'Luckyudu' that she couldn't continue with her education, because her father spent all his life savings on her treatment. She was in primary six when the incident happened. Now she has learnt how to operate a computer and would like to own a boutique someday.

Pastor Funke Felix-Adejumo, Author of best selling inspirational books and motivational speaker, while admonishing women on things to do to keep their men and marriage has admonished women to be submissive to their husbands regardless of their affluence or position. She reiterated that the only submission acceptable in marriage is the biblical submission where the two partners must submit to one another.

In her words, ' submit yourself to your husband, not the African kind of submission, no! biblical way, submitting to one another. Now that you are married, and you are a heavy weight woman, don’t flaunt your weight and greatness to dishonour your husband. Don’t demoralise your husband, don’t belittle him."

"My husband’s spoons, plates and cups are different. Only him uses them. Some of you serve your husband food Like a dog. For instance, you want to serve him rice, you would put stew on top of the rice and plantains by the side. But when visitors are around, you will bring down the best plates you hideaway to serve them. That is bad. Your husband is your excellency.

"Some of you, romance has grown wings and flown out of your marriages. Sometimes, tickle him, take a fish in your mouth and put it in his mouth.

In one of her marriage teachings, the relationship master herself, Pastor Funke Felix-Adejumo told her audience mainly women the kind of men they should never marry. She said, "Don’t marry a man who does not listen to you, who disregards your opinion.

"Don’t marry a man that raises his hand to beat you when you are dating, don’t marry a man that dishonors you in the presence of your friends or family members.

"Don’t marry a man you cannot respect. Respect is the greatest thing you can give a man not food, he can get food anywhere. Not sex, if he is not born again he can get it anywhere.

"Don’t marry a man that disrespects you, disrespect starts from the way he speaks to you, his body language. Because you are desperate to marry, you think some of this things will not appear in marriage.

"Marriage does not change people, marriage amplify what people are. Don’t go into marriage where you will be caged, it’s a life time frustration. Better stay single than to be wrongly married."

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has announced the death of his wife, Ifeoma Uzor Kalu. The senator took to his Twitter page to announce the death of his wife who before her demise lived in the United State of America.

Kalu wrote, “With a heavy heart and pain, we announce the passing on to the eternal glory of Mrs Ifeoma Ada Kalu aged 61.

“She was a woman of virtue who was committed to the service of God and humanity. A memorial service in her honour is scheduled to hold in the United States of America.”

The Art and cultural professionals in Nigeria would get infrastructural boost to support their creative works when EMOWAA becomes fully functional. Phillip Ihenacho, Executive Chairman, Edo Museum Of West Africa Art (EMOWAA) Trust has disclosed this while speaking with journalists in a media parley recently in Lagos.

He said that when the state-of-the-art pavilion that will house a materials and digital lab, archaeology and research centre is completed, it would boost and support the creatives in Nigeria and across Africa.

The EMOWAA Trust, the not-for-profit foundation behind the EMOWAA Pavilion and Museum, was established in 2019 to support the preservation of West African arts, culture, and heritage.

While explaining to journalists the focus of the EMOWAA’s projects, Ihenacho said that the focus will be on creating an ecosystem for research education and career opportunities for young creatives and professionals in cultural heritage management.

He said, “we are a country with a great culture and creativity but we don’t have infrastructure to support the creative sector. It’s about showcasing and supporting creatives and heritage management professionals that are involved in the culture and creative sector.

“It is beyond a museum project, it’s about creating infrastructure, support for the sector and to create opportunities in the creative industry. It’s about creating necessary infrastructure that the whole museum and cultural institutions across west Africa can rely on.”

Ihenacho added that the pavilion which will be completed before the end of 2024 will house a research centre, providing space for learning and exchange and archival space for works of art from West Africa and diaspora of both contemporary and heritage.

“It will be a space that will help catalyze the art and culture ecosystem by providing infrastructure for capacity building, training, digitization of works and growing a pipeline of future artists and archaeologist

“EMOWAA will also serve as a facilitator and platform supporting and maintaining part of a planned cultural district in the heart of Benin City. When completed, it will also serve as a physical space for exhibiting and studying west african art from antiquity to modern, and contemporary, “ he stated.

He noted that the creative district will collaborate with and boost the success of all existing and planned cultural institutions in Benin city including the future Royal Benin museum and the existing NCMM museum by facilitating a thriving creative hub and tourism destination in Edo state.

Ihenacho also announced the recent appointment of Professor Chika Okeke-Agulu, Nigerian art historian and Professor of African and African Diaspora Art and Director of the Program of African Studies at Princeton University and Slade Professor of Fine Arts at Oxford University, as Senior Advisor to EMOWAA Trust and Nigerian-British curator Aindrea Emelife as the new Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art.

Dele is a single father who has been rejected several times by ladies he wanted to marry, and many, he said, left him because he is a single father. According to him, he has in mind to marry his baby mama but changed his mind when he got to know of her bad character which, he said, he was not comfortable with. Dele is not too sure of himself anymore since many ladies he has told about his past end up leaving him. Right now, he is afraid to tell his fiancée about his child. He doesn’t want to lose her too.

He shared: “I had this lady I wanted to marry. I took care of her from the time she entered the university. I loved her so much. She was beautiful and had all the physical looks a man could ever desire from a lady. After she graduated, she was posted back to Lagos for NYSC. She stayed in my house for the one year programme. Besides, her family was not in Lagos from what she told me.

“One morning, she told me she was pregnant. Believe me, I never wanted it that way. The lady was my girlfriend and I intended to marry her. I met her when she was in her first year at the university and since then she became my responsibility.

When she started staying in my house I noticed some of her attitudes which I didn’t like. She was too proud and liked to dominate. She always wanted to have it her own way. I had not even married her and she was acting like my wife already. She chased my friends away. Nobody was good enough to be my friend or to visit me. She gave my friends a cold attitude. She would fight with my boys and would not bother to give them food. These were the things that made me have a change of mind about her.

“When she told me she was pregnant I told her I didn’t want to marry her but she could have the baby if she desired to. She went ballistic. She really dealt with me and those close to me. But it’s all in the past now. I do send her money for the child’s upkeep.

“But the problem now is that a lot of girls I have told about it left me because they don’t want to marry a single father. In fact, the last one had to wait till after our engagement to break up with me. She returned my ring. Her excuse was that she didn’t want to be the second woman to have my child. Since then I vowed not to tell any other lady about my little secret. There is a girl I am dating now, she is such a lovely lady, and I am scared of losing her too. I have not told her about it. My heart is not settled yet because I would like my woman to know about my child. Should I tell her or leave things the way they are? Besides, my baby boy is six years old already.”

Dear Dele, you can’t undo the past and it won’t be good to hide such a thing from someone you love. Those ladies that left you because of that were not meant to be with you in the first place. You don’t have to let the other ladies’ rejections stop you from doing the right thing. Hopefully, your fiancée will accept you all the same. I encourage you to tell her about your child. She might not take it in easily, but I can assure you, if she truly loves you, your past won’t make her love you less.

Journalists Are Not Robots, They Are Humans With A Soul...

Journalists are mostly the first people to consume both good and bad information before it goes to public space. Some of this information often gets passed the thick skins of these information carriers to their minds, especially ugly incidents, events of special interests or concerns.

The truth remains that journalists are humans with a soul, they belong to a religious group, a tribe and they have interests. They are not robots devoid of any emotions.

Many journalists have been affected emotionally from the constant exposure of negative news, horrible incidents, especially those in crime beats, politics, and other sensitive beats and from all these no one seems to care about the mental health of Journalists, not the organisations and not even the journalists themselves.

Some of the journalists contacted for this report agreed that bad news gets the better part of them, it gradually crawls onto them and snowballs into something bigger which often leads to depression, anxiety, bad moods and sleeping and eating disorders. Some said they only suffered temporary emotional trauma; just that moment and they moved on afterwards.

According to a Dart Center report, at least 80% of journalists have been exposed to work-related trauma. The effects of covering traumatic events over a long period of time can have negative effects on journalists themselves.

Take for instance, the last election in Nigeria, many journalists were involved in the elections coverage, many are yet to recover from the effects of the election, some journalists contacted said they have consciously stayed away from some social media space and any news relating to the 2023 election to save themselves from further emotional break down.  

Do you know that many journalists are so concerned about churning out news stories on a daily and weekly basis that they neglect their mental health and even personal life pursuit? They have other dreams and aspirations but can't break out because of the constant duty calls.  They deep themselves into the pool of delivering their pages, writing stories that they lost themselves in doing their paid job.

So I blame the journalists too, then I ask who is concerned about journalists' mental health?

I will advocate for a routine mental check for all journalists. Media organisations can make it mandatory for all journalists because a sound minded journalist will give sound reportage.

Then the working environment should be conducive, seren and soothing to the mind.

Then as a journalist, you should pay attention to your mental health. When you are losing it, seek help. Take a rest and revitalise your mind with things that give you pleasure and that will rest your mind. Like they say, all work and no play makes you sad and dull. Take time off to play, it helps to refuel your mind. And a little play won't make that story not fly.

One of the Africa biggest art collector, Chief Nike Davies-Okundaye who is also the founder of the Nike Art Gallery has called for more support for female artists in Nigeria as she appealed to all Nigerian artists regardless of their affiliations to come together under one umbrella as seen in the movie industry to promote artists and their works and to attract government’s attention with one voice.

She said, "I am calling on all artists to come together under one umbrella in one voice so that we will be able to approach the government. The way we promote nollyfilm we need to come together to promote our work. And We need more support for female artists in Nigeria.

On the other hand, he manages a big hotel with clubs, not that I don’t trust him, but I am not comfortable with it. It seemed that we have opposite personalities. 

“I have been to his club, what I saw; night crawlers were at their thing, some of them doing a quickie under the dim light, many of the young men already high on some substance were drooling over the half naked ladies. 

That night, one of the strippers came to our table to give me a lap dance, I frowned upon it, how can a girl give a girl lap dance? I asked him, and he said it is normal. I was so irritated. I declined. The sensual ambiance in the club could even make a priest fall into sin, not to talk of him, yet he claimed to be pure. 

“We are back together, but he insisted that if I don’t want to do business I needed to change my job, he said he didn’t want to marry a banker. And I love my job, this has been the bone of contention. 

We don’t always agree, most of his ideas are off, there are things he wanted me to do that are against my wishes, he forgot that I have my own dreams and aspirations too. He just wanted to lord his own dreams on me.

”He told my parents that I don’t respect him, this is the only thing he complained about me. I am wondering why he said it, I don’t insult him, infact I have never used abusive words for him. I respect him and I don’t know what he really wants, what should I do to respect him?

Dear Claris, every man wants to be respected by their woman, but respect could mean different things to them. To

some men respect could mean you placing them high or recognising them to be superior over you, like using Sir, my King, my hero and so on to address them, while to some you must obey them and not challenge them, when they say come you run to them, when they say jump you ask them how high in other words to be submissive, yet to some men respect means being loyal, that is, to stand with them and be supportive always. So look for what your man wants, check the route cause of your quarrels, it could point towards what he wants. He may see you as being stubborn and in extension disrespectful when you constantly disagreed with him. Love is not enough for relationships to strive. You need to be tolerant and know when to shift grounds. I recommend, both of you should seek the help of a counselor and have one on one counseling sections.

...Set To Bury Mum On 17 March 2023

Ambassador Steph-Nora Okere, Nollywood actress and filmmaker has lost her mother. Steph in an interview with gazalleafrica mentioned that her mother, Ezinne Maria Akuigbe Okere died on 8 December 2022 at the age of 85 years and will be buried on 17 March 2023.

The screen goddess who has been on low key for a long time also debunked a story in the media where she alleged a blogger, Stella Dimoko, wrote many years ago, where she claimed in the publication that Jim Iyke told her that she liked to be beaten before sex. She expressed her displeasure over a story she said she thought was buried just for it to resurface on the media again. According to her nothing like that ever happened and was a lie from the pit of hell.

She said, “ To me I don't even know where to place it. it is a lie from the pit of hell and honestly I don't think Stella made up the story, it is Jim Iyke’s act. He made up all the stories, he said all that unprintable things about me then there was no internet, I just left all of them alone. I didn't respond to his allegations. Between him and I we knew what happened in that relationship."

When she was asked why it took her such a long time to debunk the story, she said, “I didn't want to give the audience until I saw it on the internet again this year. Maybe they are poking at me so that I can clear the air.

I wanted to talk about it last year, but I was advised by my late friend, Ada Ameh not to, but somehow I think I need to clear the air now. I need to squash that information about me. I am not calling anybody out. 

“He said a lot of unprintable things about in the past just to look good, but now this thing has crawled back into the internet, now that it is online people are not letting it go, like they said, the internet does not forget. That is why I have to speak up now. It is a lie, nothing like that happened. I want to say that statement he made was one of the attempts he made to run me down because of a failed relationship.”

 She continued,” All the time I lived with Jim, we lived with people and lived in a very mega accommodation, chances of that happening is zero and it never happened. I am not that kind of person. I have partners before Jim, no such story has been told about me. I know why I took a walk from the relationship and violence was part of it.

"And when they said I still love him, I was quoted out of context, what I meant was that I still love him as a person, I didn't hate him. It's painful to know that such a story is emanating from someone I spent my good three years with.”

In the same vein, the screen diva also mentioned in the interview that though she desires to be with a man but prefers to be single until she meets her man. In her words, “I was once married. I am a divorcee, I have been out of the marriage since 2007.  As for me, if I tell you I don't desire to be with a man and have a man in my life I will be lying to you. These days we all know what is out there we have to be careful. 

"Since my marriage had an issue I have been living my life as a single person, I have encountered all kinds of people it has taught me to be very careful with trying to get into relationship because you don't want to do it this time and fail again, it is better you stay single and by the grace of God hopefully run into somebody you can live the rest of your life with. Otherwise you make the same mistake over again and then it will become a blunder"

He said, " I de repeat m, any ibo we dem born well, we Dem born well make him come vote here,"

And another man, APC faithful was caught too on camera threatening voters not to vote any other party except APC.

He said, " if you no that you are not voting APC go home, no body force you come here, go home. I will check who you are voting for."

Unfortunately, all these threats where made in front of police officers, without them been reprimanded or arrested

Some voters complained of missing ballot papers for the presidential election in many polling units in Enugu, and INEC officials absent in Alaba international Market in Lagos and similar stories in different parts of the country.

Likewise, the BVAs Machine worked very well in many polling units while there were few hitches in some polling units where the machines are not working like governor Wike's polling unit in Rivers State. Wike expressed disappointment over the malfunction of the BVAs machine despite INEC assurance of the device optimal function.

However, many of these voters where seen shouting that they want to vote.

Some places in Lagos like LASU gate, many voters were locked outside, and were refused access to their polling units not until the military arrival.

The president of the United States Of America, Joe Biden has urged all the political actors in the forthcoming general elections to sue for peaceful elections and transition.

Biden tweeted on his handle, "All Nigerians deserve a chance to choose their new leader through a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful process. As election day nears, I urge the political parties and candidates to live up to their pledge to respect the election results and support a peaceful transition."

 There was a certain king in Onitsha, he was very generous and loved to party. Every important occasion like the new yam festival was an opportunity to dine and wine with his subjects.The king was known throughout the village as a dancing king. Whenever his praise singers began to sing his praise accompanied with the sounds of 'ogene' drums, he moves his legs like a warrior and shakes his body like one possessed by demons, indeed the king was possessed of the spirit of music. He exhumed energy and wisdom.

On this particular new yam festival he wanted to demonstrate to his subjects the importance of being unique and not copying other people's culture, especially the white men. 

On that day, he particularly asked his wives what to prepare. He told them to prepare boiled yams, and make available different sauces to eat the yam and they must include palm oil as a sauce.

When everyone had gathered and it was time for food to be served. 

Those serving asked each person what he would like to eat the yam with, there was fish stew, meat stew, fried eggs, beans and palm oil.

Many of them opted for fried eggs with yam, some went for stews with yam while others asked to be give beans with yam, nobody wanted to eat yam with palm oil except an old man who asked to be given yam with palm oil 

Everybody was enjoying their meal, only the old man's food was delayed. When it was as if his order was not coming then five beautiful damsels filed out, each carrying a plate of delicacies. The first girl brought the yam and oil in a wooden calabash, the second girl brought a well prepared goat meat (nkwobi), the third came with dried peppered bush meat, yet the fourth girl came in with different fruits in a basket then the fifth girl came with a keg of palm wine. 

Everyone present was surprised, then with his thunderous voice the king told his guests that the old man was treated special because he chose to be different, he dared to follow a different path unlike many of them that made their choices based on other people's choice.

He said, Africans copy what they don't understand. They copy foreign cultures without understanding what that culture entails. As an individual dare to walk in your own path, stop copying what you don't understand, the king told his subjects.

A Federal High Court siting in Lagos today has bared the Independent Electoral Commission INEC from engaging the services of Musliu Akinsanya also known as MC Oluomo group in distributing election material in Lagos State.

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Nigerians to go out on election days to cast their votes without fear. He made this assurance in a televised broadcast where he assured Nigerians of Adequate security during the general election while he called on parents to ensure their wards are not used by Politicians to cause trouble.

In the broadcast the president thanked Nigerians for giving him the mandate to serve, he also noted that he is aware of the hardship caused by the naira redesign policy saying that his government is doing everything possible to cushion the effect. He appealed to Nigerians to be patient and calm, "there will be light at the end of the tunnel," he assured

Meanwhile, the president restated that his party APC has a presidential candidate in the person of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and asked Nigerians to vote Tinubu for continuity.

The Economic and financial commission has debunked the report that claimed that the commission raided the house of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, presidential candidate of APC and recovered #400 billion. The commission described the viral news on social media as fake.

EFCC stated this in a press statement signed by Wilson Uwujaren, Head, Media & Publicity on 19 February 2023 and sighted by Planetnews on their tweeter handle reads in part, "the attention of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has been drawn to a report circulating in the social media, claiming that operatives of the Commission raided the home of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the forthcoming presidential elections and recovered a humongous sum of N400billion

"The Commission wishes to state that no such operation was carried out by the EFCC. The public is enjoined to disregard the report as fake news."

The Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has asked the general public to disregard the information on CBN ordering Banks To accept Old #1000, #500 notes against president Muhammadu Buhari's earlier order asking the apex Bank to recirculate only old #200 notes.

CBN described the information as fake. The apex Bank stated this in a press release and posted same on their tweeter handle disassociating itself from the report. And also urged the press to verify information before publishing to avoid misleading the people

..Old #200 Notes Remains A Legal Tender Till April 10

President Muhammadu Buhari in a televised broadcast today, redirected CBN to recirculate the Old #200 notes back in the system. Buhari said the old #200 notes will remain a legal tender till April 10, and will be used alongside with the new #200 notes.

He insisted that the old #500, #1000 notes would not be acceptable in Nigeria as a legal tender.

He also stated that he has directed CBN to continue it's sensitisation program in the rural areas to sensitise the people about the naira redesign policy. And those with old #500 and #1000 notes can deposit it at any CBN designated offices.

The Supreme Court has adjourned the case filled by APC Governors against CBN and FG on the naira redesign policy till February 22.

The hearing which took place today, 15 February 2023 had in attendance Nasir El-Rufai, Kaduna State governor and his Kogi state counterpart, Yahaya Bello and Senior Advocates of Nigeria, other lawyers.

The APC Governors in the suit asked the Apex Court to stop FG and CBN from continuing with the Naira redesign policy.

Meanwhile, the CBN on Tuesday said old naira notes of #200, #500, and #1000 are no longer legal tender in the country since Friday, February 10 2023.

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned and handed over to the Nigerian Police Force operational vehicles, crowd control equipment, computers and other items to help the police to instill peace during and after the elections.

Traders, Business Owners in Lagos were seen on Monday rejecting Old N1000, N500 and N200.This is coming after the February 10 deadline given by CBN for old Naira swap.

Speaking with a Mini-mart owner in Ogba Lagos, he said that his banks alerted him on Monday to stop accepting old naira notes.

"Yesterday I got a call from my two banks, they asked me not to accept old notes as they are no longer acceptable.

"I accept transfer, or transactions through POS. The only problem is that I don't have enough change to give to people," he said.

The unbanked traders are most hit, since they have no bank account where they can receive cash transfer. They complained bitterly of low patronage.

The Christian Association of Nigeria CAN in a press statement dated 12 February 2023 and signed by Archbishop Daniel C. Okoh, CAN President has debunked the report making rounds alleging that a certain sum of N2bIllion was given by the presidential candidate of Labour party, Mr Peter Obi to Churches under the umbrella of CAN.

He asked Nigerians to disregard such report. The statement reads in part, "To set the records straight, I am not aware of any N2billion given to Churches in Nigeria to mobilise votes for any 2023 presidential candidate and never received the said petition dated December 22, 2022.

"I use this medium to categorically state that the so-called letter of petition reportedly signed by one Pastor Frank Onwumere and addressed to my office is illogical and can best be described as a failed attempt to drag the apex Christian body into the politics of 2023. However, we will investigate the source of the letter in the interest of the public.

"CAN, therefore, urges members of the public to disregard the purported letter of petition as its content are not only untrue, but malicious.

"We warn those peddling the falsehood to desist from such acts because they are capable of defaming innocent people and revered religious institutions as well as breaching public peace."

The cleric however warned those peddling lies against the apex Christian body to desist from such.

Senator Shehu Sani has defended the presidential candidate of Labour Party LP, Peter Obi of the alleged report that he (Obi) bribed some members of Christian Association Of Nigeria CAN with N2 Billion Naira

Sani wrote on his tweeter handle, "I don’t think Peter can easily part with N2 Billion. Last week we met at the ICC Abuja, venue of the NLC delegate congress, even his front pockets have a sealed cover."

Meanwhile the said pastor who allegedly collected the N2 billion naira has posted a video debunking the news, he said he never collected money from anybody.

He said he has not seen that kind of money in his life and people should disregard the story as he said , " it's a lie from the pit of hell."

..National Council Of States Members In Support Of Naira Redesign

Members of the National Council of States consisting of past presidents and policy makers in Nigeria have asked the CBN Governor, Godwin Emefele to make new naira notes available to Nigerians or recirculate the old naira notes to reduce the current sufferings faced by Nigerians due to the scarcity of naira.

The council of state meeting which was held today, Friday at the presidential villa was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari. Some of the past Nigerian Presidents present in the meeting included former head of states, Abdulsalami Abubakar, Yakubu Gowon, former president, Goodluck Jonathan, and Olusegun Obasanjo who joined virtually.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the Presidential Candidate Of APC, has asked the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa'ad Abubakar III to endorse him and not to reject his request.

Tinubu stated this when he paid the Sultan a curtsy visit in his palace with President Muhammadu Buhari and other APC stalwarts on Thursday before heading to the campaign ground.

He said to him “We have come here to ask for your support and blessings; and endorsement, we want to win the coming elections.”

“I have come to be presented to you as candidate. The President and Commander-in-Chief, Muhammadu Buhari is here in person to do that. I want to win the election. Certainly you can't reject me. Is there a way you will decline the request of the President?"

The Leader of the caliphate in his remark restated that he is an apolitical leader, and will continue to pray for the nation. He noted that many have come to the palace to seek his blessings and more will still come for same purpose. He added that he is in support of the President commitment in ensuring a free, peaceful and fair elections.

Artists and tattoos are like banks and money. They move together pari passu. it is rare to see a musical artist in Nigeria with no tattoo, the more famous they become the more drawings they inscribed on their bodies.

This days, Tattoos no longer carry the negative connotations like in the past years where any person wearing visible inked tattoos was seen as a bad person or a criminal.

Now artists wear tattoos as a brand, to identify with the international artists and to be accepted in their cycle.

It's even like a piece of art work worthy of display or something to show off. The more tattoo they get on their bodies the more powerful they seemed to look.

But in all this we still have some Nigeria celebrity artists who do not have any tattoos on their bodies. These artists included:

1. Daniel Oyebanjo, with the stage name D'Banj is one artist in Nigeria who has been seen without a tattoo. He is also know as Koko master who has won many awards for his music collaboration both nationally and internationally.

2. Teni, is an award winning Nigerian Female artist with no tattoos.

3. Banky W is another big artist cum politician with no visible tattoos.

4. Another big artist with no Tattoos is Jude Abaga, popularly known as MI.

5. DJ Cuppy (Florence Otedola) is a Nigerian DJ and singer with no visible Tattoos despite her wealth and exposure.

National Universities Commission NUC has ordered all universities to close down to allow students to participate in forthcoming elections.

The regulatory body for Universities in Nigeria who was working under the directive of the Minister Of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu in letter addressed to vice chancellors and school owners read in part, "In view of the foregoing and concerns expressed on the security of staff, students and properties of our respective institutions, the Honourable Minister of Education, Mal Adamu Adamu, has, following extensive consultations with the relevant security agencies, directed that all universities and Inter University Centres be shut down and academic activities be suspended between 22 February and 14 March, 2023,” said a letter issued by the National Universities Commission on February"

An accident involving an articulated vehicle, an 18-seater bus belonging to GUO motors, a Sienna car, Toyota Corolla and a Toyota Matrix car occured in the early hours of Thursday on the Kara Bridge axis of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Lagos State governor, has announced the establishment of food banks in various parts of the state for the distribution of food items to vulnerable families hit by the lingering naira and fuel crises.

Sanwo-Olu also directed a 50 per cent fare reduction in all state-owned transportation services with effect from today (Thursday).

Abubakar Malami, the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), has asked the Supreme Court to dismiss a suit filed by Three APC Governors challenging the Naira Redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Funke Akindele, Nollywood Actress, and the Lagos State PDP Deputy Gubernatorial Candidate, has lost her mother. Her mother, Dr R B Adebanjo-Akindele died on Tuesday 7 February 2023.

Senator Sehu Sani, has adopted a two weeks old baby reportedly abandoned and picked by the police. He tweeted that he is now the father of the child and has named the baby, Jordan Sani.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan On Tuesday said that he was declaring a state of emergency for three months across 10 provinces in the earthquake zone, according to Turkish media.

The country's vice president, Fuat Oktay, told reporters 8,000 people had been pulled from under the rubble. He said there were 20,000 people taking part in the rescue efforts.

Tens of thousands of people were injured in the two nations and several others were left homeless in harsh winter conditions.

Meanwhile, nearly 6,000 buildings were destroyed in the disaster, the country’s disaster management officials have announced.

Erdogan had earlier declared a seven-day period of national mourning for the victims of the disaster, which he called the strongest the country has seen since the 1939 Erzincan earthquake.

The 7.8 magnitude tremor struck at 04:17 (01:17 GMT) on Monday at a depth of 17.9km (11 miles) near the city of Gaziantep, according to the US Geological Survey.

A later tremor had a magnitude of 7.5 and its epicentre was in the Elbistan district of Kahramanmaras province.

On Tuesday morning, traffic was at a standstill on the main highway to the Turkish city of Maras, close to the epicentre of the quake.

Cars occasionally crawled forward, the wet road illuminated by glowing red brake lights. Few rescuers have made it to this part of southern Turkey yet.

One search and rescue team on their way to the city, their van loaded with specialist equipment and supplies, told the BBC they were eager to start looking for survivors, but they had no idea how bad the devastation would be when they arrived.

Nationally, 8,000 people have been rescued from more than 4,700 destroyed buildings, Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) said in its latest statement.

Rev. Steven Adegbite, Chairman, Christian Association Of Nigeria Lagos State Chapter has appealed to federal government to allow the old naira notes and new notes to be used along side till December.

Adegbite also noted that the naira redesign policy is ill timing and has brought so much hardship to Nigerians coupled with the fuel scarcity.

"Concerning the fuel and naira scarcity, it is ill timing and not expected. You will recall that since the past 8 years, there has not been fuel scarcity and suddenly a few months to election, queues have returned to fuel stations, and getting naira to spend becomes difficult, then there is something wrong.

"Is there any nation where money will not be spent during elections? it's not possible. Even in the US you must spend money but they will make sure that you have a budget and they will monitor you the way you are spending that money. INEC needs money and currently they are lamenting that it will be hard for them to move staff and electoral materials around on election days.

"What we are saying from Lagos CAN is that the old notes and the new notes must work pari-passu until December. I appeal to Nigerians to be patient, and don't destroy government property. We will not support any riot or protest that will destroy government property" Adegbite said.

He stated this yesterday in Lagos while briefing newsmen on their forth coming Inter-denominational Prayer meeting slated to hold this Saturday at LAWNA Territorial Headquarters Olorunda, Ketu Lagos with the theme ' Peace Be Still".

13 registered Political Parties out of 18 for the 2023 general election have threatened to boycott the election if CBN extends the deadline for Naira swap.

The political parties praised the presidency for the timely policy, and asked the president not to bow to pressures to extend the naira swap beyond February 10 as planned.

...BVAS Mock Exercise Fails, as INEC is compromised

INEC came under heavy criticism of progressive coalition of civil society groups that alleged that the electoral body was not ready to conduct a free and fair election given the recent trends monitored by the organization.

The organization led by its secretary, Alhaji Dan Sule in a press release in Abuja stated that the electoral body was ill prepared given its antecedents of two postponements and the recent condemnation of its procedures and values by the Osun State Electoral Tribunal in its final judgement in the last conducted governorship election between Governor Oyetola and Senator Adeleke.

Already the organization stated that the report emanating from INEC indicates that given the Osun judgement a big loophole in BVAS operation that the opposition planned to exploit to hack the election has been discovered and INEC is struggling to plug the same.

“The “BVAS loophole” as it is called is now the major headache of INEC and should give headache to well meaning progressives given INEC’s recent hues and cries that their database is being hacked”, the Executive Secretary stated.

In a related event, it was also revealed by intelligence gathered by our correspondent that the mock BVAS exercise conducted by INEC over the last weekend failed woefully and that indeed, BVAS was likely to be be a major source of chaos if the Presidential election were held in less than two weeks. It was said that INEC officials were as usual covering their tracks and some may well have been compromised by the opposition.

The executive secretary called on INEC to come out clearly if they cannot meet up with the demands of Nigerians for a free, fair and transparent elections and should stop collusion with anti-democratic retrogressive forces that is bent on sabotaging and embarrassing the government of the day that has given INEC a free hand to operate instead of tele-guiding.

The group stated that, “Indeed, postponement will be an embarrassment to this administration, given that it will be a third one in a row in general elections, but if the cause is opposition hacking and sabotage as progressive forces have found out in Osun, then INEC must come out boldly to declare the same.”

Earlier today, A powerful 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit southeast Turkey and Syria destroyed buildings and leaving at least 500 dead with the toll expected to rise.
The quake, centred at north of the city of Gaziantep about 90km from the Syrian border, left a huge trail of destruction in both countries and was felt as far away as Cairo.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Turkish President reacting to the incident tweeted that “search and rescue teams were immediately dispatched” to the areas hit by the quake.

“We hope that we will get through this disaster together as soon as possible and with the least damage,”

Peter Obi, the Presidential Candidate of Labour Party LP today on Arise TV has called on those in the entertainment industry including Nollywood to vote for him as he is now one of them as claimed by Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Obi stated this on Arise TV while responding to Ruben Abati' s question on El-Rufai's recent outburst where he claimed Obi can’t score more than 1% in Sokoto , 2% in Katsina ….. and he should focus on Nollywood

Obi replied, "I thank El-Rufai for what he said, at least he gave me some percentages; I’ll work hard to improve on that.

"The Entertainment Industry is one of the engines that will develop us as a Nation, I’ll focus on that and Nollywood.

Sarah has already pictured in her mind the kind of man she wished to be her man. She wanted a black, tall and rich man and to top it, a man with a good dress sense. “So what I always do when a guy approaches me for a date, I ensure I like him but if I am not attracted to the person and he is not my spec, instead of wasting the person’s time, I would tell him straight up that I am not interested.

“Many of these guys I once rejected are now married and I am still single.

There was a guy, this one we started out as a friend before he expressed his love for me. He was not my spec but I liked him , I even tried to love him because I wanted to marry. But still he irritated me, I couldn't even kiss him, and I couldn't bear it when he touched me or fondled me. I tried but I couldn’t love him the way I should. The guy is neat and fun to be with but I was not feeling anything for him.

“Another thing that actually turned me off completely was that every time I came to visit him, he would be with different ladies. He brought the girls he met on dating platforms home. He told me the day I accepted him wholeheartedly he would stop sleeping around.

“I decided to keep him as just a friend, he is now married too.

Sometimes I wonder if I am the reason why I am not married, maybe I am too selective, I just need to pour out my heart. Is it bad that I desire a man of my choice?

Dear Sarah, It is good to know what you want in a man especially when you want a life partner. So it’s okay if you are choosy or not accepting just any kind of man but you need to be careful not to become too choosy or looking for a Mr perfect because you may never find that kind of man.

So you need to know when to draw that line and open up your heart to guys before you chase away your husband while in search of your ‘spec’

President Muhammadu Buhari in Lafia, Nasarawa State Today has begged Nigerians to Vote For Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC Presidential Candidate. Buhari said he has know Tinubu for 20 years and he will give his best if he becomes the president.

Lagos State Parks Management Committee LSPMC led by Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to allow LSPMC to distribute sensitive electoral materials and also be in charge of transporting INEC officials on election days.

The request was contained in a letter the Park's Management Committee wrote to INEC dated January 12 2023 which was received by INEC on January 16, 2023.

The letter also asked INEC not to employ the services of the suspended National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW.

The two storey building at 7th Avenue Gwarinpa Area of Abuja collapsed on Thursday, according to passerbys those rapped in the building are calling for help.

Dr Aisha Maina, The medical superintendent explained that five newborns birthed in Nakuru County on Wednesday, February 1, had minimal chances of survival as they were underweight.

Speaking to TV47, the medical doctor added that the internal organs of the newborns had not fully developed due to their weight.

According to the hospital, the newborns weighed between 500 grams and 650 grams.

The five were also born prematurely as their mother - Margaret Wairimu- went into labour at seven months.

Political spectators are surprised at the continued silence in VP's camp. He is obviously not campaigning for his principal or any other candidate in this general election. His silence is deafening and has made many analysts wag their tongues.

Another persons whose absence are copiously noticed are the two former governors of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola and Akinwumi Ambode. The latter' s absence can be excused as his relationship with his master has gone sour long before now, but for Fashola not to be present in APC Campaigns is definitely not a good surprise.

Today, a woman who was obviously frustrated by the current naira scarcity in the country removed her clothes in the bank as she demanded for her account to be closed and all her money given to her.

The woman who spoke in yoruba in a video that went viral said that her children couldn't go to school yesterday because there was no money. She said she would not go anywhere until they closed her account and she withdrew all her money.

Mahmood Yakubu, Chairman of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has revealed that the current fuel scarcity in Nigeria might affect the movement of election materials for the February 25 and March 11 elections.

The INEC Chief stated this today in Abuja at a consultative meeting with the transport unions such as the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), amongst others.

He said, "The commission shares your concern about the fuel situation in the country and its impact on transportation on election day."

He revealed further the commission's plan to meet with the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) to find better ways to handle the situation."

As planned, the INEC Chairman and members of the Commission paid a courtesy visit to the Group General Manager of NNPC, Mr. Mele Kyari at NNPC Headquarters Abuja today, Tuesday 31 January 2023.

HE Peter Obi, Labour party Presidential Candidate has called on Federal government to ensure over three million Nigerian students who are eligible to vote in the forthcoming presidential election are not disenfranchised.

The presidential candidate stated this during a meeting with observers from the European Union, Election Observation Mission (EU-EOM).

Nigerians have reacted to Peter Okoye of Psqure tweet Condemning the recent attack of the Nigerian President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari by some residents who threw stones at his Helicopter during his visit in Kano.

The iconic artist while Condemning the act said that even though the APC administration has performed badly it was not enough for anybody to humiliate the president or his office.

His tweet reads, "We all agree that President Buhari and the APC has performed badly but we do not subscribe to humiliating the president or office of the president. This is totally condemnable!

Many of the tweeps were not happy that the artist was Condemning the attack, they believed the attack was called for looking at the hardship the APC administration has brought upon Nigerians.

One of the tweeps, @eziokwu01 says, "APC commanded Nigerians to stone them if they fail,and it is only the brave youths of kano that have delivered on that mandate which have distinguished the rest of you as follow follow lezzy wellers,salut to all kano youth."

Another tweep,@arfayeh, " In a democracy citizens have the power. They are making their grievances known. He'd get back and think deep."

Yet another tweep reads, "Ordinarily I wouldn't be in support of this but hey, nothing in naija is ordinary anymore (bag of rice from 7500 - 46k etc). I think it's high time the people in power knows how badly they perform so the next person will always have something to reflect to when seating there."

Prof. Yemi Osinbanjo, Vice President of Nigeria has said that cashless policy when effectively operated can help to stem the surge of illicit election Financing by making it possible to track funds.

Osinbanjo stated this on his Twitter handle on Monday when he announced his meeting with delegation of the European Union Election Observation Mission led by Mr. Barry Andrews, the Chief Observer, who is also a member of the European Parliament.

He said, "Electoral offences are always seen through a political prism; people will assume that they are being prosecuted because they belong to one political party or the other.

"There is the Electoral Offences Commission Bill currently at the National Assembly and we hope that it will begin a new regime of dealing with electoral offences.

"More attention should be paid to the monitoring of tribunals and their outcomes. In the past, there have been discussions around the malfeasance of some judges. Those who are found guilty must be brought to the fore."

Many Nigerians are stranded over new naira notes scarcity. Many have claimed that they are yet to handle the new redesigned notes and have no way of getting it because of its scarcity.

A visit to ATMs around Ikeja, Ogba and it environs showed that many bank ATMs were not dispensing cash and the only few paying ATMs have large number of people on queue.

Many of them are stranded because they have no money on them for transport fare or to carry out any transaction that required cash.

A lady who Identified her self as Omo said she has gone to different ATMs and none where paying except the GTbank ATM where she met long Queue. She said she needed the cash to buy food and transport herself back home after the close of work.

Prof. French Howard, Author and Professor of Journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, has attributed many woes of Africa to slavery and economic exploitation by the colonial masters. The American journalist said if many African countries were allowed to develop organically, may be, many African countries would be at same level with the western countries in terms of civilization and development.

Howard stated this at Sterling leadership Series SLS tagged “Born In Blackness: Truth, Lies and X,” during the week in Lagos.

He stated that aside the chain associated with slavery the main damage and purpose was to devalue the victims of slavery saying, “The first is psychological, the Bob Marly call for us to free ourselves from mental slavery comes to mind here. Slavery is not about the chain. It’s about making people to devalue themselves. You can’t be subjugated effectively until you have been internalized.

“This history of Africans written by the colonists is to convince Africans that somehow they are not worthy for equal considerations and somehow the way the world turned out to be is just normal. But it is not normal and it’s not justified.”

He added, “When I was writing my book, and in my research, one of the things you heard from this Portuguese accounts is that during the exploitation in Africa, not everywhere, many African countries they encountered, they met civilization that shows they are equal, in terms of organization, governance and military capacity.

“African’s history was sabotaged,

If they had came and told you that your people used to be as good as us in everything, in warfare, in governance, or in medicine. And my people wrongly explored your people, that would have undermined the narrative.

Freedom from mental slavery, begins with learning history.”

The discussion which was moderated by Uti Ellu and Kunle Remi, Nigerian actor had in attendance young Nigerians from different fields who engaged the professor with questions pertaining Africa.

Nine people met their untimely death today when a truck conveying a 20ft container crashed on top of a commercial bus (mini-bus) around Ojuelegba Bridge in Lagos.

It was learnt that the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control and fell over the side of the bridge.

After suspending the container load with the aid of the Agency’s forklift and cutting off the top of the bus with light rescue equipment, a single adult woman was rescued alive and taken to the trauma centre.

According to a report by Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, PS LASEMA, the Nine victims were identified as 4 adult males, 3 adult females,1 boy child and 1 girl child.

The Agency’s heavy duty Goliath and teams from Onipan and Cappa were on ground with the Agency’s Ambulance, LASG FIRE, FED FIRE, LASTMA and Nigeria Police have been working on this situation which is now concluded.

He noted that further investigation will be carried out by the Nigeria Police on the removal of the barriers on the bridge aimed at preventing trucks from ascending.

Ekene was talking to the girl for eight months without meeting her physically. They bonded so well that he felt it was time to meet the angel that he has been talking to on the phone. But he feared that he may not be the kind of man the girl would want to date. And she might reject him.

She on the other hand was very eager to meet me, infact she threatened that if we didn’t meet soon she would stop picking my calls. 

“I enjoyed talking to her, but I was afraid that she may not want to continue with me after she saw me.

I kept postponing our meeting till November last year, that was after eight months. Even that day we scheduled to go on a date, I almost chickened out. 

I had to get new clothes, from the shirt to my pair of shoes. 

I didn’t have perfume, so I had to buy one and spray it on the go.

“I wanted to impress her, but I think I didn’t impress her enough because after that first date, she never agreed to go out with me again and she didn’t pick my calls like before. She would always tell me she was busy. At night she would tell me she wanted to sleep, unlike before when we used to talk into the midnights. 

She even told me I am disturbing her with my calls. 

“Seeing her on the ground,  I love everything about her, her composure, her looks and she is sexy. 

When I told her I wanted something serious, she said I should give her time and we can just be friends for now. 

Do you think she is interested in me? And will she ever say yes to me?

Dear Ekene, I don't know what you told her during that period you were talking to her on the phone. Probably through your interactions you raised her expectations and made her have a high impression about you.

For her to suddenly change after your first meeting shows you were not what she expected and also there is every possibility that she didn’t like what she saw.

For the sudden change in attitude, I think she is not into you, because a girl that wants to be with you will not see your call as a disturbance and will not hesitate to accept you.

The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Osogbo has returned former governor of Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola as the duly elected governor of the state.

The tribunal in a split document of two to one declared that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, should withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to Adeleke and issue the same to former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.

HE Abdullahi Sule, Governor of Nasarawa state has lost his eldest son, Alhaji Hassan Sule one year after his wedding.

According to the statement made available to newsmen, the late Hassan died on Thursday, 26 January 2023.

The statement read, “His Excellency, Abdullahi A. Sule, the Governor of Nasarawa State, on behalf of his family, announces the sudden demise of his son, Hassan Sule, whose sad event occurred on Thursday, January 26, 2023."
